Hindemith ~ When lilacs last in the dooryard bloom’d

Contralto Louise Parker and bass-baritone Geroge London are the soloists in a 1946 performance of Paul Hindemith’s “When Lilacs last in the Dooryard bloom’d: a Requiem For those we love“, a setting of the Walt Whitman poem. The Schola Cantorum of New York – directed by Hugh Ross – and the New York Philharmonic are under the composer’s baton.
